How Went The Week?

Carl Wadey

So, after the 'Official Launch' on Tuesday, it's been quite a busy week. In addition to my loyal existing pupils, who have continued from the old company, no less than three 'newbies' have joined me this week, as official 'Altitude' pupils.

Of course, those regulars who have been learning with me for a while are all at different stages.

There was Katie on Tuesday, who did a great job of her first drive away from home. Depending on where you live, there can be a world of difference between starting in a nice quiet housing estate, and starting outside your house on a much busier road.

And I have quite a few pupils in the run-up to their tests, in some cases after quite a delay due to the well-publicised test availability issues. Billy, whose test is on Good Friday, really mastered the many and varied roundabouts of Crawley. And that was after a very good motorway drive in wet weather on the way there!

I had two newbies on Monday. Ria, a young mum who had done some lessons before, is joining me as apparently her previous instructor won't consider any test centre other than Redhill. Much as I love to watch the aeroplanes while a pupil is out on test at Redhill, I am quite happy to go to Sevenoaks, or a few other test centres. And Ria managed a good drive to Sevenoaks, in an unfamiliar car, so that she can start to get a feel of the area where she now has her test arranged.

Later on Monday, I met Jasper (on his birthday) for his first ever driving lesson. He listened well, and got to grips with the cockpit drill and controls lesson. We then moved on to uphill and downhill starting and stopping, and even managing some gear changes and simple left and right turns to finish.

Those are by no means all the pupils I've seen this week, but they give a picture of the variety of people with different levels of ability that I might see.

Quite a nice start to my Altitude adventure. Here's looking forward to next week.
